Elections 2024


Thursday 2 May 2024: Local and GM Mayoral Elections

Local Elections will be taking place in all 19 wards in Tameside on Thursday 2 May 2024.

A full list of candidates will be published on Monday 8 April.

All 10 Greater Manchester councils will also be combining their elections with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority Mayoral Election. For more information on these elections please visit the GM ELECTS website.

If you are not already registered to vote, you must register before midnight on Tuesday 16 April.

If you vote in person at your local polling station, you must show valid photo ID. If you do not have any valid photo ID, you can apply for a Voter Authority Certificate instead. The deadline to apply for this certificate is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.

The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on 17 April.

To appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf at your designated polling station for the election on 2 May, you must do so online by 5pm on Wednesday 24 April.


Standing for Election

Local Elections nomination period will begin the day after the Notice of Election, which is due to be published on 26 March 2024. The deadline for receipt of nominations will be 4pm on 5 April 2024.

You must submit a valid set of nomination papers to stand for election. We recommend booking an appointment (after 26 March) to return papers by contacting the elections office at elections@tameside.gov.uk.
